The Halloween Fiasco

Benjamin & the girl

In all of the after Halloween rush of the Pugfest in Atlanta, announcing the Costume Contest winners and selling the 2007 Owned By Pugs Calendars, I almost forgot to blog about the Halloween fiasco that occured.  In the photo you can see what we refer to as “the girl.”  It is a little statue in the background behind Benjamin in the photo.  Well, after we made our rounds through the neighborhood with the pugs in their 3 little pigs costumes, we came home to answer the door for trick or treaters.  At first we didn’t have too many and we didn’t really need to man the door.  Unfortunately, “someone” got careless and left the bowl of goodies on “the girl’s” tray.  Of course, Benjamin the curious little pug, got to sniffin’ and smellin’ and tried to get to the goodies.  He ended up pulling the girl over and her arm broke off and pieces of ceramic and Skittles went everywhere.  Fortunately, no one was hurt but “the girl” is beyond repair.

The broken girl

Amusing side note to this story.  “The girl” was a Christmas gift this past year.  Henry was sleeping when she was opened and assembled.  When Henry woke up, he was shocked to find the lady in his home and barked at her confused by her short stature and bewildered as to how she snuck into the house.  It was quite a riot.

Giving Thanks

It has been quite a year here at Owned By Pugs. We rescued a little girl pug, re-designed the OBP website and even opened H.Doodle.com (A Little Shop for Little Dogs). So, there is a lot to be thankful for this year. We thought we would give the kids a chance to tell everyone what they are thankful for.

Benjamin's Puffy

Hi! It’s Baby Benny, I want to tell everyone that like every other year I’ve been alive, I am thankful for my puffy. My puffy is my little security disk. I take it to bed every night and sometimes I even carry it around with me in the daytime, too. There are times when company will come over and I will shove it in their face. (I like to show it off.) But they think that means I am giving it to them. NO! It’s my puffy! I am just showing it to them. If they want a puffy, they can get their own. My puffy is very precious to me.

Benjamin and his pillows

I am also thankful for my pile of pillows. I have a pile of pillows in the bedroom, the living room, the flex room and the guest bedroom. My family keeps a lot of pillows around and I am the pillow king of this house! Love my pillows! Yeah, yeah! So thankful!

Pumkin Bread

I am of course, also quite thankful for food. I love my breakfast, lunch & dinner. But I especially love treats…like pumpkin bread, my morning bite of banana, stealing Cheerios, apple cinnamon softies from Doggie Dayz and any frozen treat from Ritter’s.

Henry in the Pug Tug

Hello. Henry here. I like to keep it simple. Ever since we moved here to Florida there have been a couple really important things that I am especially thankful for: the beautiful fenced in yard with grass to roll around in, the warm sunshine to warm me and the chilly swimming pool to cool me when the sun gets to be just a little too much. I love to be outside and soaking in the warm Florida weather. Yes, it is a pugs life for me! Very appreciative, I am!

My family

Hey! It’s little Luna! Talk about thankful! I am the Cinderella story of this household! I went from pug rags to pug riches when I got this gig. There is so much for me to be thankful for. As most of you know, I wasn’t very well taken care of early in my life. I came here and I got a fun family that loves me, takes care of my medical needs (eye drops every day, eye surgery, seeing a dermatologist, the works!) I didn’t have that before and now I feel great (even if I don’t look that much better—-I am definitely healthier!) I sure do appreciate it! I am also so thankful to have 2 brothers that look out for me and having them to cuddle with is just a super feeling! I am also appreciative to the nice lady at compassionate pug rescue that found me this great home.

My Clothes

My Box

Hi. It’s me, Cupey cat. I know that this blog is “for the dogs” but it is Thanksgiving and I would like to express my gratitude, as well. I love my wicker box (even though sometimes I have to share it) and my carpeted perch (which I don’t have to share) but what I am most thankful for here at the new house in Florida is the terrific screened in porch where I can watch the squirrels and the geckos and they can’t get me and the great grassy lawn that is fenced in for my protection. I like to go outside and chew on a blade or 2 of grass, chase the bugs and roll on the lawn on a sunny day. I am just as spoiled as the rest of the critters around here but I am not too proud to say thanks! I am quite appreciative even if I don’t show it that often. I really am!

The humans here at OBP have a lot to be thankful for, too. We have terrific family & friends and of course the pets (which are really a big part of the family but the humans might get a little irritated if we didn’t give them top billing) but we are appreciative to you all in the pug community for giving us support through the adoption of our newest pug, Luna and with the the roller coaster of medical issues we have had with her these last few months. We appreciate you and your dedication and support to the cause of all good to all pugs. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.

Pugsgiving and Pugkin Bread

Ann & Benjamin

This weekend we traveled about Central and Southern Florida to 2 Pug Events.  The first one was Pugsgiving in Lakeland, Florida.  This event was quite fun for the humans but it was super special for the pugs, especially Baby Benny.  You see, Benjamin has a special admirer.  Her name is Ann.  She is with Central Florida Pug Rescue and a loyal blog reader.  After reading about the many adventures of Benjamin’s famous pumpkin bread obsession, Ann offered up her famous loaves!  She specially made Benjamin 2 loaves of pumpkin bread.  Oh, but there weren’t just 2 loaves for Baby Benny!  She made 2 loaves for each of the pugs!  How awesome is that?  It was so sweet of her do that!  As soon as we got to Ann’s booth, Benjamin’s sniffer began going a mile a minute.  Then she presented him with the bread and he got that curiously excited look on his face.  He smelled it and was like “Is that for me?!”

Ann & Benjamin

It was so funny, too because not only did she bake the loaves of bread special for them but she wrapped it all pretty with a nice green bow and a tag with Benjamin’s photo from one of the latest blogs (the one with his ear inside out.)  It was so kind!  Ann shared with us that how on the first attempt to make the pumpkin bread her own puggies jumped onto the table and snagged the original loaf.  So, it must not be only our Benjamin who goes hunting for pumpkin bread.

Pugkin Bread

We gave each of the pugs a little piece for the car ride and then the rest went in the back.  It made the next few hours in the car on the way to Miami a little difficult, though because Benjamin would go through bouts of whining and scratching toward the way back as he begged for the remaining pumpkin bread.  When we finally arrived in Miami, they received another little piece and then we had to find somewhere else to stow the tasty treat.  We ended up triple bagging it and then storing it in the hotel room safe where Benjamin couldn’t get to it.

So, the journey began with the Pugsgiving event in Lakeland and then we headed to Miami.  Thanks to Ann for making the Pugsgiving event so special to the boys & Luna!  Ann,you are just terrific.  More about the events and the trip in blogs to follow.  Don’t miss ‘em.

Mommy’s Little Helper

Henry at the computer

I guess the apples really don’t fall far from the tree.  Since I work from home, Henry has decided that he, too wants to be a computer programmer and earn some extra income.  (Hey, I am all for that!  Earn your keep, boy!  Good for you!)  Here is Henry.  Tell me:  Is he “working hard?” OR Is he “hardly working?”  Maybe for Christmas Santa will bring him a lovely pocket protector.

2 Good Boys

Benjamin & Henry

It is hard to really remember (although it hasn’t even been a year) of what life was like before we adopted little Luna.  But before Luna joined our family, the only dogs in our family were the boys, Benjamin & Henry.  Heck, sometimes we still just call the 3 of them “the boys.”  She doesn’t seem to know the difference.  Even if she did, I don’t think she’d care much.  She is a tomboy anyway.  (I mean she does lift her leg to pee….)  In any case, the one thing I do miss (don’t get me wrong…I wouldn’t trade little Luna for a million bucks…but…) the boys do a good job getting their pictures taken and Luna is neither photogenic or patient.  Thus, Luna usually makes for the blurry spot in the “family” photo.

So, I decided to take a couple of photos of just the boys for a change.  They do a good job when I tell them just to sit there and look cute.  They are good boys.  It is funny when I look at this photo because so often people stop me and ask how do I tell the boys apart.  Well, to us pug lovers, how can’t you?  It is quite evident, though, especially when they are right next to each other that Benjamin & Henry look quite different.

Post Dog Park Ice Cream

Henry at Ritter's

Since the boys & Luna had done such an awesome job being social, yet well behaved puggies at the dog park, we decided to stop for a frozen treat at our local ice cream hang out.  Ritter’s has the best “ice cream” in town.  It is actually frozen custard but if you call it that no one really knows what you are talking about.  Anyway, we made a little stop on the way home from the dog park.  The dogs were in luck because one of the flavors of the day was pumpkin.  Even though pumpkin is their least favorite part of their daily meals (turkey, yogurt, oatmeal and pumpkin), it is a little different when the pumpkin flavor now has some sugar and is magically transformed into a frozen treat.  Then it becomes quite yummy!

Check out the photo of Henry on top of the ice cream cone statue.  He truly believes he is King of the World!  They were all feeling fine as they scarfed down their doggie dish of yummy pumpkin ice cream.  We love the weekends and we are sure the pugs do, too!
